Pilates, what it is and what are the benefits for women?

ZAAZEE recently met up with Catherine Hebb, one of the owners of Runway Pilates and  did a class. Here’s more about the benefits of pilates. Catherine teaches pilates classes and does  1:1’s to an array of clients from people with injuries through to top athletes.

Hi Catherine, so can you tell us, just what is reformer pilates?

No piece of Pilates equipment is more famous than the Pilates Reformer. A reformer is a bed like frame with a flat platform on it, called the carriage, which rolls back and forth on wheels within the frame. The carriage is attached to one end of the reformer by a set of springs and it is body weight and resistance of the springs that make the carriage more or less difficult to move. The secret of Reformer is its ability to train many parts and dynamics of the body in so many different ways with just one relatively sleek piece of equipment. All kinds of exercises are done on the Reformer to promote length, strength, flexibility and balance.

Why is it amazing & what can I expect ?

Reformer Pilates sets your body up for success in whatever it does. Whether you’re training, toning or recovering, you’ll do it better, stronger, more efficiently. There are over 500 challenging exercises on a reformer which keeps it fresh, varied and fun! Benefits for women are endless – the most feedback we get from our female clients is how dramatically it has toned up there stubborn body parts for most it is abs, butts, inner thighs and back of the arms. Core is the main aim of the game with Pilates and pelvic floor plays a big part in the core connection – so exercising this muscle regularly has multi benefits!

Who would your dream client be?

My dream client for me would be to work with a professional football club. I have an increasing number of clients who play professional football and are plagued by injuries, many of these injuries could be avoided by doing regular reformer pilates sessions to ensure all parts and dynamics of the body are trained.

Why try a reformer class?

It is so important for us to work all of our body parts as our bodies need all of its parts to be able to move around effectively and efficiently every day. Reformer Pilates is an excellent tried and tested exercise system (which started in 19th century) and we are trained to the highest level to ensure that everyone does it correctly as to avoid injury and get results. If you have never tried a reformer Class then it must go on to your bucket list – it is above all great fun!

What is your fitness cheat food wise?

If you are meaning healthy fitness cheat food wise – then my nutribullet is my best friend – I struggle to get all my vit and minerals in so I blast it up in the nutribullet and drink it down. Unhealthy fitness cheat food wise – chocolate!

Any flattering tips for ZAAZEE customers on how to feel good?

Happiness comes from within. You have to love yourself first before anyone else can. Posture can make a big difference to the way you look and hiding any stubborn areas – imagine you are wearing a beautiful diamond necklace and you want to show it off to the world – lift through your chest and this will flatten out your stomach and open up your shoulders giving you a confident and open posture.
